Be here, now

So, not long ago I experienced the birth of my first child, a son.  My wife was amazing and I was astounded by my own ability and necessity to be in the present moment at that time.  Now, that we have our little one home I am finding myself in the present moment a lot more than I had been in the past.  

The incredible experience that is birth and life made me realize, and empowered me more than ever, that anything is possible.  I can do and accomplish anything as long as I put my mind to it.  This little guy has also made me realize that I have no control over anything anymore, and I'm just along for the ride...and surprisingly, I feel really comfortable with that...I've found that I've already become extremely more laid back than I use to be.  I think that will serve me well as a father and as an entrepreneurial musician/artist.   

So, my point is that you need to cut yourself some slack with your music and creative career.  Yeah, you want to pay attention to the things you need to do when you need to do them and maintain some orgainization toward your goals, but don't forget to enjoy what you're doing right now, don't worry so much because if you're creative endeavors become work and you forget why you enjoyed them in the beginning then it's time to re-examine what you're doing.   

My advice to you is it to write down 5 to 10 reasons why you enjoy music or your creative endeavor and keep it in a handy place.  Then, when you reach a point when you're feeling overwhelmed or overly serious bring out your list and remind yourself of why you got into this in the first place, and cut yourself some slack.
