Recently, I read an article in Inc. magazine about a software entrepreneur. The entrepreneur was talking about how him and his business partner were focusing on the wrongs things in their early days as they were trying to grow their business. It made me think of my own business and how I've had several moments within my career where I've unfortunately focused on the wrong thing, which in hindsight feels like I wasted time, energy and money. Granted, there's always something to be learned with every experience, so it wasn't completely for not.
Specifically, as of late, I've been focused on short-term solutions to progress and grow my business when in actuality I should really be focused on producing the best music I can as a musician for both my fans and myself. Also, I need to focus on providing the best marketing, design and promotional work I can for my musician, artist and entrepreneurial clients. By focusing on what appears to be a very simple and basic concept you'll be surprised at how easily the rest falls into place. I think sometimes we get so caught up in the "if I do this, then..." game that we begin to grab at flavor-of-the-week types of activities that end up being a bit misguided and not truly on point with where we should be going and whom we serve, ourselves included. |
